FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Coconino National Forest will be offering aspen fuelwood at Lockett Meadow one day only - Saturday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wood will be available to anyone with a valid 2009 Fuelwood Permit from the Coconino National Forest; Charge and Free-Use Permit holders are welcome.
Lockett Meadow will be open only to fuelwood collection. Trailhead use and camping will not be permitted until the campground's seasonal opening May 15.
Logs will be dead and down, cut during a recent hazard-tree removal project. Permittees should plan to cut and haul their own wood and no off-road driving will be permitted.
Because Lockett Meadow road is a winding and very narrow mountain road, trailers are not recommended. All drivers should drive with caution.
For additional information or to obtain a fuelwood permit, contact the Peaks Ranger Station at (928) 526-0866.
