Lady Bulldogs advance to championships from pool play

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs opened the Bojo's/3C's Softball Tournament with a convincing 12-0 win over Greyhills in pool play on Thursday. There were two more pool play games on Friday in which Joseph City defeated Holbrook 0-4 and Las Vegas Centennial topped Sinagua 11-1.

Against Greyhills, Winslow scored 10 runs in the first inning and two in the third. Jennifer Yazzie pitched a no hitter in her three innings of work for the victory and led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with two hits in as many trips including a double. Bernice Gover was two for two with a double. Melissa Jacobs was one for two with a triple. Mireya Ulibarri and Gabrielle Stacey were also one for two. Felicia Nagle was one for three with a home run. Arianna Huerta and Mariah Guzman were also one for three.

Friday saw a busy day of 21 pool play games to determine seeding for bracket play Friday night and Saturday. Winslow jumped on Many Farms 22-0 in their first game that day. Yazzie and Mallory Smith combined to no hit Many Farms in the three inning game. Winslow scored 18 runs in the first inning and four more in the second. Ulibarri was two for two. Yazzie was three for four with a homer and a double. Gover, Guzman and Jacobs were two for three with Gover having a double. Nagle was two for four. Stacey was one for two and Huerta was one for three.

The Lady Bulldogs won their section of pool play with a 10-0 win over Chino Valley. Winslow scored two in the first inning on a single by Ulibarri, a double by Yazzie and singles by Gover and Kyli Parsons. A walk to Jacobs and a single by Huerta in the second increased the lead to 3-0. It became 6-0 in the fourth on a triple by Stacey, a single by Huerta, a double by Yazzie and a walk. The four runs needed to complete the scoring came in on singles by Jacobs and Stacey and a double by Huerta. Yazzie and Kelly Pugh worked from the circle for Winslow. Huerta was three for four with a double. Yazzie had two doubles in three trips. Stacey had a triple and a single in three trips. Gover, Parsons and Guzman were all one for three. Ullibarri was one for four.
