Williams selected as Kayenta town manager

KAYENTA, Ariz. - After months of searching for a town manager, the Kayenta Township Commission selected and approved a one-year contract with Jarvis Williams Nov. 10 at a regularly scheduled township meeting. Williams has been with the township for the last two years as the Community Involvement Coordinator before making his transition to the town manager position.

Williams has worked closely with local projects including the Navajo Nation, and the local schools, as well as handling media relations. In addition, Williams was instrumental in opening the recreation center and played a key role in the development of the community skate park. He also developed the community-wide trash clean up day that has gained more community participation over the last four years.

"Mr. Williams has taken an active interest in our community. We know that he is dedicated to this community and will transfer that energy as our town manager. We believe he has earned the position and will do a fine job," said Commissioner Chairperson Eugene Badonie.

"I am honored that the commissioners have the faith in my abilities to provide the service needed for the community and the organization to progress forward. It will be my duty to facilitate collaboratively the needs of the community, commissioners, and administration into a workable plan," Williams said.

Williams is a 2001 graduate of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., where he obtained a degree in southwest studies. He also spent a few years as a social studies teacher with the Kayenta Unified School District where he taught world history, world geography, and U.S. government. He is a member of the Kayenta Alternative Rural Health Steering Committee and the Monument Valley Economic Development Association.
