The state playoff berths for the 3A North Region are virtually set with one game left of most of the teams schedules. The Holbrook Roadrunners picked up the biggest win in Friday's games with a late 18-14 victory over the Monument Valley Mustangs. The Mustangs led 14-12 late in the final period before the Roadrunners came up with a clutch drive that produced the victory. Holbrook is 4-5 for the season and 3-2 in the region with a game at Ganado remaining. Monument Valley is 4-5 also and 2-3 in the region with a game against Chinle remaining. Holbrook holds the tie breaker by virtue of their win on Friday.
The Window Rock Scouts assured themselves of second place with a close 39-36 win over the Tuba City Warriors. The Scouts are 7-2 for the campaign with their next game being in the first round of the playoffs. They could tie Winslow for first should the Bulldogs lose to Tuba City, but Winslow still holds the tie breaker having defeated the Scouts.
Tuba City fell to 1-8 with the loss to Window Rock. The Warriors are 1-5 in the region.
Winslow defeated the South Pointe Griffins 51-6 in a non-league game on Friday to improve to 6-3. They are 5-0 in the 3A North with only Tuba City left to play.
The Ganado Hornets defeated the Chinle Wildcats 27-14 in a game that should have no playoff implications. Ganado is 2-7 for the season and 1-4 in the region with Holbrook remaining to play. Chinle fell to 4-5 for the season and 1-4 in the region with Monument Valley remaining.
Barring unforeseen developments, Winslow will be the league's first seed and the only one to host a playoff game. Window Rock will be the second seed from the region. Holbrook will be the third and probably last seed. Monument Valley will finish fourth but is unlikely to advance.
