June-Watchman will be missed

WINDOW ROCK - Ramona June-Watchman, a case management specialist with Navajo Nation Department of Child Support Enforcement, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008. She had suffered from diabetes.

Ms. June-Watchman supervised 13 employees and managed the operations at the Tuba City and Kayenta offices. She was responsible for a combined total of 3,000 cases. She started with the Department of Child Support Enforcement in 1996 as a child support enforcement officer. She then transferred to serve as a peacemaker liaison at the Tuba City Judicial Branch in 1998. She re-joined the Navajo Nation Dept of Child Support Enforcement in July of 2002 as the case management specialist for the Western Navajo Agency.

Pierette Baldwin-Gumbrecht, program supervisor in the Department of Child Support Enforcement, Division of Human Resources, said Ms. June-Watchman was delightful.

"Ramona had a kind, generous, playful spirit, and a lot of patience," Baldwin-Gumbrecht said. "She shared much of her knowledge of Navajo law and Navajo custom toward improving operations of the department. Although she had serious health-related problems in the last couple of years, she valiantly continued to serve children and families in her capacity as case management specialist. As a result of her management and supervision, many Navajo children and families directly benefited from collections of child support, establishment of paternity, and establishment of child support orders."

Lawrence T. Oliver, executive director of the Division of Human Resources said Ms. June-Watchman was a dedicated employee who showed great care for clients.

"Ramona was a committed employee who continually demonstrated her knowledge and expertise in Navajo law," he said. "She was a certified advocate, a diligent and effective ally for Navajo children and families. Her research and analytical skills greatly enhanced progress for the Department of Child Support Enforcement. Ramona will be greatly missed by all who knew her."

The staff of the Division of Human Resources expresses deep regret at the passing of Ms. Ramona June Watchman.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 18 at the LDS Church in Kaibeto.

Desert View Mortuary in Tuba City is handling arrangements.
