Bulldogs 20, Monument Valley 6

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Monument Valley Mustangs 20-6 in a 3A North Region football game played at Winslow on Thursday. The win gave Winslow a 4-0 record for the season and a 2-0 record in the region.

The first half was marred by five lost fumbles, two bad snaps on punts and an interception between the two teams. After a scoreless first quarter, Winslow got on the board on an 18 yard pass from Matt Smith to Kirk Ramsey. The conversion failed and the Bulldogs led 6-0.

Monument Valley missed a golden scoring opportunity when they took the ball on downs inside the Winslow one after the snap on a punt sailed over the punter's head. The Mustangs gave the ball back on a fumble two plays later.

The Mustangs tied the game with 4:21 left in the third quarter on a 13 yard pass from Sean Loy to Jordan Sullivan. The conversion was blocked.

Winslow drove 91 yards to score with just seconds left in the quarter on a five yard run by Efran Kinlecheenie. The conversion by Stacy Berg gave the Bulldogs a 13-6 advantage.

The final score of the contest came on a brilliant 25 yard run by Justin Powell. Powell broke at least five tackles on his way to the end zone. Berg converted for the final point of the game.

Winslow will host Greyhills on Friday in their Homecoming Game. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
