Hopi Elections Office announces Special Election for the Office of Chairman

KYKOTSMOVI - The Hopi Elections Office has announced that special elections for the Office of Chairman will be held early next year.

All persons interested in running for Office of Chairman should pick up a Candidate's Petition Packet at the Hopi Tribal Secretary's Office in the Legislative Building in Kykotsmovi. Candidates must be an enrolled Hopi Tribal member, 25 years of age, and submit ten signatures in support of candidacy. The deadline for submission is Jan. 9, 2007.

The Primary Election to determine candidates who will compete for the office of Chairman will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007.

The general election will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, to select a chairman for the Hopi Tribe.

The designated precincts are as follows: Keams Canyon Boarding School Library; Ponsi Hall; First Mesa Community Center; Mishongnovi/Sipaulovi Community Center; Shungopavi Community Center; Kykotsmovi Community Center; Bacavi Community Center; Hotevilla Community Center; Moenkopi Community Center; and the Hopi Elections Office on the Hopi Day School Campus.

All members of the Hopi Tribe age 18 years and older are eligible to vote and are encouraged to register.
