Once again, it's time to thank our many Navajo Hopi Observer contributors.

It took numerous phone calls to Rez schools, but the end result was certainly worth it. This week's edition of the Observer includes three Pages of Honor, recognizing academic achievement across the reservation.

Check out pages 11,12 and 13 to find honor roll students from Chinle High School, Greyhills Academy High School, Hopi Jr/Sr High Schools, Monument Valley High School, Pinon High School, Tuba City Junior High School and Tuba City High School. Of course, without the generous support from our advertisers, these pages wouldn't be possible.

Also, for several weeks now the Observer has been running a brief article with our Health News highlighting an employee at Tuba City Regional Health Care Corp. This is the brainchild of US Public Health Service Lt. Stephen D. Navarro who is nurse recruiter at the hospital.

He came up with the idea for the regular feature to trigger interest in local Native Americans wanting to obtain a higher education in the medical field. There certainly is a tremendous need for doctors, nurses, pharmacists and physical therapists throughout the Rez.

Beginning with his next featured employee, Lt. Navarro will start including practical information on various medical careers, such as how much schooling is entailed.

This week's Observer includes a brief story on a new cookbook published locally by Northland Publishing, "A Taste of Arizona," by Karen Billideau, which includes several Rez recipes (See page 10). Two of them Pinon Chicken Salad and Hopi Blue Corn Bread are included for you enjoyment.

Let me know what you think.

Rez events

The Navajo and Hopi Indian Reservations take in a tremendous geographic area. It will often be unfeasible for our small staff to cover events that occur within these far-flung boundaries.

If we cannot be present we will happily run photos you snap as well as your written summary of an event. If photos are e-mailed to us in jpeg format, we can put them directly onto our pages. If you send us a photo via U.S. mail or drop it by the front desk, our graphics staff will scan it.

Please give us a way of contacting you should we need additional information and an address so we can return photos to you. Do give us a heads up when something is going on in your area preferably via e-mail so we can get your information speedily and accurately. The e-mail address is editorial@flagstaffaznews.com.

You can also reach us by phone at 928-226-9696 or 1-877-3787 (toll-free) and by fax at 928-226-1115.

We look forward to hearing from you.
