HEEF now accepting art for 2006 Silent Auction

The Hopi Education Endowment Fund (HEEF) is currently gearing up for its third annual Silent Auction to be held on Friday, March 3. This year, the auction is moving to a new indoor location, the Hilton Garden Inn at 4000 N. Central Avenue (Indian School Road & Central Avenue) in Phoenix, and will feature a "live" auction of a pot donated by Hopi artist Jacob Koopee Jr. Koopee, a potter from Walpi, is the only native artist to ever win Best of Show honors at both the 2005 Heard Indian Fair & Market and 2005 Santa Fe Indian Market and has repeatedly supported HEEF efforts through donation of his art.

During the past two auctions, HEEF has been able to raise more than $26,452. These funds provided grants and scholarships for Hopi students, as well as other educational programs for the Hopi Tribe. With increasing tuition costs, Hopi student population, and overall educational needs of the Hopi people, HEEF staff is working to, at minimum, raise $20,000. In order to reach this goal, the staff has increased marketing efforts and have partnered with McGee's Indian Arts to attract additional buyers and potential donors.

HEEF extends an invitation to all Hopi artisans to consider donating artwork of all media categories as well as any interested business that would like to sponsor the 2006 Silent Auction. All donating artists will be included in HEEF marketing material for the silent auction, which includes printed handouts, posters, radio public service announcements and website promotion. The HEEF will continue to accept artwork in their office on reservation until Tuesday, Feb.28, after which artwork will be accepted at the event site on Friday, March 3 from 1-6 p.m.

HEEF would also like to thank all of the artists and following sponsors who have generously committed funding and artwork for the event:

Sponsors include: McGee's Indian Arts, Canyon Records, Images & Words Printing & Graphics, Hopi Telecom Inc, Hopi Credit Association, Husk Partners, Hopi Foundation and KUYI.

HEEF is a nonprofit entity of the Hopi tribe; therefore, all artwork donations and sponsorships to the HEEF are tax-deductible.
