Bulldogs defeat Window Rock Scouts, 47-8

The Winslow Bulldogs football team defeated the Window Rock Scouts 47-8 in Winslow on Friday to clinch the 3A North Region championship and secure a first round home game in the Arizona State 3A Conference Playoffs. The Bulldogs finished their season with a 9-1 record and were undefeated at 6-0 in the region. Window Rock suffered only its second regional loss and finished third in the region with a 4-2 record. The Scouts were 6-3 for the season.

Winslow struck first on a 30-yard run by Jordan Payne. Kyle Holland converted for a 7-0 Bulldogs lead with 7:34 left in the opening quarter.

Payne scored again on an eight yard run to cap a 57-yard drive and give the Bulldogs a 13-0 after the conversion failed with 3:41 left in the period.

The first quarter scoring ended on a five-yard run by Mark Armao with just four seconds remaining. Holland converted and the Bulldogs led 20-0.

Window Rock put together its best offensive drive of the game and used up over five minutes before the Bulldogs held at their one-yard line and took over on downs. The Scouts had driven 78 yards but failed to score.

The Bulldogs went on a long drive of their own, some 99-yards and scored on a pass from Payne to Matt Oso. Holland converted for a 27-0 lead with 3:58 left in the half.

Armao ran 17 yards to score with just 57 seconds left until intermission and Holland booted the conversion for a 34-0 Winslow half-time lead.

Payne passed 19 yards to Oso with 7:31 left in the third quarter. The conversion failed and Winslow led 40-0.

Dillon DeWitt ran three yards for Winslow's final touchdown and Holland's conversion gave the Bulldogs a 47-0 lead with 10:56 left in the game.

Window Rock scored on a six yard run by Forrest Town. Eric Begay ran for the two-point conversion that ended the scoring with 6:40 left on the clock. Winslow held the ball for the balance of the game and walked off with a 47-8 win.

The Bulldogs will host an Arizona State 3A Conference Play-Off game on Friday at 7 p.m. against the fourth seed from the 3A West Region.
