Bulldogs tested early

The Winslow Bulldogs baseball team was slated to play the Holbrook Roadrunners in Winslow on Tuesday and will participate in the Mohave Invitational Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Winslow will play six games in the Mohave Tournament beginning with games against Joseph City and River Valley on Thursday. On Friday, the Bulldogs will meet Window Rock and Laughlin. On Saturday, they will play a powerful Fountain Hills Falcon nine and the Chino Valley Cougars.

Coach Art Griffith has six seniors on his squad including infielder Pierre Arossa, pitcher/outfielder Alan Duran, pitcher/infielder Remigio Sells, pitcher/outfielder Lucas Armenta, pitcher infielder Alex Richards and pitcher/infielder Chris Robertson.

Juniors on the squad include outfielder Josh Stago, catcher Daniel Bailon, pitcher/infielder Matt Oso, pitcher/outfielder Adrian Smith, infielder Anthony Martinez and outfielder Jordan Payne. Sophomores include infielder Steffen Bailon, infielder Mark Armao, catcher Stephen Soehner, pitcher/catcher Mario Sells and pitcher/infielder Joe Monsegur.

After the Mohave Tournament, Winslow will play at Round Valley on March 8 and at Snowflake on March 10. The next scheduled home game is on March 15 against Chino Valley.

The Bulldogs will then get their second taste of tournament play at the Estrella Foothills Invitational on March 17, 18 and 19.

Non-conference games against Camp Verde in Winslow on March 22 and Holbrook at Holbrook on March 23 will complete the March portion of the schedule.

Most of the games to be played in April are 3A North Region games, though two of the first three to be played that month are non-conference affairs. Winslow will play at Flagstaff on April 2 in a non-conference game, and then meet Greyhills at Tuba City on April 5. Another non-conference game in Winslow against Blue Ridge will be played on April 6.

Regional play will resume with games against Hopi in Winslow on April 7, at Kayenta against Monument Valley on April 11, against Ganado in Winslow on April 14 and at Tuba City against Tuba City on April 16. Pinon will be in Winslow on April 19.

A non-conference game at Blue Ridge will be played on April 20. The final 3A North Region game will be played in Window Rock on April 22. The final non-conference game will be played in Fountain Hills on April 23.

Winslow will host the semi-finals and finals of the 3A North Region Tournament on April 29 and 30. If the team does not finish first or second in the region, it may have to play on April 26 and/or 27 at a sight to be determined.

The state tournament will be played in Phoenix on May 6, 7, 13 and 14.
