Mary Magdalene Brissee

A memorial mass for Mary Magdalene Brissee, 82, formerly of Holbrook, will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Holbrook. Mary passed away on June 15, 2005 at Pueblo Norte Hospice in Scottsdale. A mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Phoenix. Interment followed at the Phoenix Memorial Park Cemetery in Phoenix, with Phoenix Memorial Park Mortuary in charge of the arrangements.

Mary was born February 19, 1923 in Portville, New York. She married Francis M. Brissee on November 28, 1945. In 1959,the family moved to Holbrook where Mary was a customer service representative for the Arizona Public Service company for 20 years before retiring in 1982. She and her husband were Holbrook residents for 45 years.

Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Francis M. Brissee; three daughters, Anne (Jim) Rickstrew of Winslow, Mary Lee Lewis of Phoenix, and Alicia (Eddie) Rackers of Hereford, Arizona; a brother, August P. Kayes of Portville, New York; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lois Woodward Scott

Lois Woodward Scott, 96, died peacefully in her home in Provo, Utah, on June 14, 2005.

Lois was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on Aug. 24, 1908. She moved to Winslow initially in the 1960s, then later settled here with her husband John.

Lois loved music, to sing and play the piano. One of her first jobs was playing the piano to accompany silent films. Later she studied music, and spent many years playing. In Winslow, Lois was active in her church and many organizations.

She was much loved for her kindness, warmth, and sense of humor. Lois wrote in her memoirs: "I think I have experienced every possible human emotion...but never hate." She had an amazing ability to keep these qualities even in the midst of hardship.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Ted; and granddaughter, Debbie.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Mary Woodward of Provo, Utah; and sister and brother-in-law Leslie and Luke Bloxham of Downey, Idaho; as well as many other family members and friends.

Services were held on Saturday, June 18 at Walker Sanderson Mortuary in Orem, Utah.
