The history of Winslow was on display Wednesday, Aug. 3 as the Old Trails Museum celebrated its Grand Re-opening.

The event drew a full house. Museum Director Kathy Patton said approximately 75 people signed the guestbook but she's sure there were even more who didn't.

Many of the quests also attended as friends of the Historical Society's President, Rich Randall, who celebrated his 87th birthday the same night. The new reading room was also officially dedicated to Randall.

Randall, a retired railroader, has been president of the Historical Society for more than 20 years, was named the Rotary Citizen of the Year in 1996 and has been involved with the Winslow Senior Center, the Elks Lodge, restoration of Brigham City, and has been a long-time supporter of school and community activities.

The Richard Randall Reading Room opened earlier this summer after Historical Society members cleaned and repainted the room so visitors would have a quiet place to study. The room is home to books on the railroad, local history, Route 66 and other important interests of Northern Arizona.

The Grand Re-opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce, music by Clyde Wideman and Chris Pane and Cathy Gilbert donning their Harvey Girls' outfits.

The museum is also raffling off a gift basket as a fundraiser. The basket includes items donated from local merchants totaling around $600. The basket is on display at the museum. The drawing will be held Dec. 4. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Patton said that anyone else who wants a unique setting for a birthday party would be able to rent the museum. For more information, call 928-289-5861.
