TC High's Ryan Brown distinguishes himself as an athlete and student

When it comes to athletic ability, dedication and commitment, Ryan Brown is the perfect example. Ryan sets high goals and expectations for himself and works hard to achieve them, in both academics and athletics.

Ryan has been a key player for the Tuba City Warriors basketball team. He had a very impressive season capturing 3A North Player of the Year honors, making the All-Arizona 1A-3A All-Star Basketball team for which he will be playing June 18 in Surprise, Arizona. Ryan also made the Navajo Times All-Area Team for Arizona and New Mexico. He averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 assists and 2 blocked shots per game. He was also a four-year varsity starter.

Ryan’s participation in the Track and Field program has been just as remarkable.

“For the past four years it has been a wonderful honor and pleasure to be Ryan Brown’s coach,” Ryan Goatcher said. “About once every ten years, a coach is blessed to have a student-athlete like Ryan, who is the ‘total package.’ This means someone that is willing to go by all the rules, is respectful, cooperative, is willing to go the extra mile to achieve his goals, and does well in the classroom.

“Ryan has all the ‘keys to success’,” Goatcher continued. “Ryan exhibits motivation, hard work, integrity and perseverance. You can count on Ryan to be at practice, on time, everyday. Ryan’s high standards and mature character will serve him well in all he pursues in life.”

At this time, Ryan is favored to become the 3A North regional champion in both the shotput and discus,

“I not only want to be regional champion, but my main goal is to become state champion in both events, and I will work hard to achieve those goals.” Ryan said “My inspiration to do my best comes from my father, who taught me how to throw the shot and discus.”

Ryan receives much support from his mother, who is always there to keep him on the right path.

Ryan has also been a part of the TCHS Tech Prep Program for the past two years. He has earned six credits in Education through Coconino Community College and has completed 250 hours of fieldwork. Denise Goatcher, one of his instructors in the program, comments: “Ryan has been an outstanding student and he is a wonderful young man. He is very dependable and contributes a great deal to the TCHS Preschool Program. He is a very caring and committed individual who enjoys mentoring and sharing his skills and athletic abilities with the children. He is also a great role model for students at the Eagles Nest Intermediate School where he is completing a second internship in the Teacher Cadet Program. We’ll sure miss him next year.”

Ryan plans to continue his education after high school, majoring in athletic training. He is the son of Marlene Brown and the late Melvin Brown.
