Bone marrow donors needed

David Lister, a 16 year old Navajo youth, a friend of my son’s and a resident of Prescott, urgently needs a marrow transplant to survive leukemia.

David is a friend of my son’s. I visited him at Phoenix Children’s Hospital last Saturday. He has been there since March 1 and needs to stay several more weeks.

Donating, once a match is made, involves a procedure similar to donating blood to a blood bank. It’s not the debilitating procedure it used to be. His family members were tested, but unfortunately, none of them matched. David has gone through months of exhausting chemotherapy since his diagnosis last summer, but it didn’t work.

I am writing you because you have numerous contacts and opportunities to publicize urgent needs. David’s most likely donor will be a Native American and the only way to find him or her is through a broad-based appeal.

This boy deserves a chance to grow up with us. Please visit www.davidlister.org for testing sites and dates. Also, if people would send him notes, it would cheer him up considerably. The address is: David Lister, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, 1919 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016.

We care deeply about his recovery and hope you can spread the word for people to get their blood tested.

President Bush and Red Lake

Within about two hours of Terri Schiavo’s death President Bush went on national television offering his condolences to her family. No news reporter had to ask the president his thoughts on the issue. He started his press conference by speaking out about the Terri Schiavo’s case.

President Bush was traveling around America during the time of the Red Lake Indian School shooting. President Bush did not take time at any of his speaking events on that day to even mention the school shooting. President Bush waited almost a week before addressing the school shooting, and then it was done on his weekend radio show. To this date, President Bush has not seen fit to speak out about the Red Lake Indian School shooting on national television. This is as un-presidential as it gets.
