Winslow alumni make their mark in military<br>

Airman 1st Class Brent Robertson of Winslow will be deployed after January 2005. Robertson, a 2003 Winslow High School graduate, signed up to enlist in the Air Force during his senior year on the delayed entry program.

He is a Communications Computer Systems Operator stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Okla. He attended boot camp at Lackland AFB in San Antonio and tech school at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss.

Robertson is the son of Lane and Charlene Robertson. He has two brothers, Shane (Samantha) Robertson and Christopher of Winslow; sisters, Sharon (Nick) Mathis of Phoenix, and Melissa Robertson of Winslow; nephew Nolan Robertson of Winslow; grandparents, Lila Pledge of Phoenix, and Lenore and the late Bud Robertson of Winslow.

Navy Seaman Recruit George J. Vasquez, son of Sandra and George Vasquez of Winslow, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Vasquez completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed by teaching sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Vasquez is a 2004 graduate of WHS.
