Winslow Film Festival draws large crowd<br>

The Second Annual Winslow Film Festival entertained a large number of film watchers last weekend at the Winslow Theater.

The festival, which began on Thursday, October 23 and ran through Sunday, October 26, featured 20 independently-made films.

Those featured were: “Saints and Soldiers,” “Take It and Like It,” “3 Feet Under-Digging Deep for the Geoduck,” “Twice Removed,” “A Seat at the Table,” “Proposition 13,” “Sumo East and West,” “Nice Guys Finish Last,” “Easter,” “Leatherwing Bat,” “The Flew,” “All God’s Creatures,” “Barely Alive,” “World Inside Me,” “The Silvergleam Whistle,” “Greater Southbridge,” “Sunset Story,” “The Perfumed Killers,” “Uncovering Glen Canyon” and “Field Trip.”

“Twice Removed” filmmaker Heather Hughes from Seattle, Wash. said she was thrilled about the turnout the Festival drew. “I was so nervous thinking no one would show up for my premiere of my first film, but people came and I really enjoyed sitting in the audience and watching how they reacted to my work.”

Winslow resident Greg Hackler was seen coming out of the premiere of “Proposition 13,” which was a film rated PG-13 about a young married couple finding themselves. When asked what he thought about the film, he said, “It was the most provocative thing Winslow has seen since Beach Blanket Bingo.” He added he really enjoyed it.

The Winslow Film Festival’s director, Jennifer Lee, said she was really thrilled about this year’s Festival and added it just gets better each year.

She said the only downfall she saw was a lack of advertising film listings and showing times, but promised next year to do her best to inform the public about the films.

She also said she really appreciated the community support she and the Festival received.

The Festival was scheduled to end with an awards ceremony but did not due to the fact that one of the judges was unable to view all of the films. Lee said the awards ceremony would take place online as soon as the judge is able to view all the films.

Lee said she hopes to post the awards soon on www.winslowfilmfestival.org.
