Greyhill’s Mark Ruybal honored as 3A North Basketball Coach of Year<br>

Tuba City — Conference coaches selected Mark Ruybal, the athletic director at Greyhills Academy High School, as the 3A North Boys Basketball Coach of the Year on Feb. 15.

“I was selected by my peers, so it is an honor,” said Coach Ruybal.

The team finished 19-10 overall, and 12-4 in the conference.

There were four players on the team that made the first team-all conference — Josh Tate, LeDaniel Gishie (Rookie of the Year), LeVaniel Gishie (scoring) and Derek Begay (assists).

“This team was one of the best teams I have coached in my life,” Coach Ruybal said. “Although the season ended in a disappointment, we had a taste of state.”

Greyhills lost to Globe in the regionals 71-55.

“Without hard work and commitment from the boys, this would not have been possible. They are the reason why I got this award. It’s how strong the team, the students and the school itself are that reflects this,” Ruybal said.

Students and staff said the coach deserved the award, and it’s a result of his dedication and the time he devoted to the team’s success.

Ruybal said he looks forward to another upcoming successful year and has set a goal to make it all the way to the state tournament.
