Permanent Fund public hearings

Permanent Fund public hearings will be held noon-5 p.m. Friday, July 11 at Fort Defiance Chapter and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, July 12 at Chinle Chapter House. Native American Vietnam Veterans

The Native American Vietnam Veterans will host a program 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 12 six miles south of Rock Point. Activities include a flag raising ceremony, memorial service recognizing veterans and a 21-gun salute. All veterans are invited. On July 13, NAVV will present a Navajo Nation flag to Blanche Benally, 95, a former longtime Navajo Ordnance employee. The flag raising ceremony will be at 7 a.m., with the program running 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Guest speakers include track and field athlete Vanessa Woody from Ramah, N.M.; Miss Western Navajo Nation Loren Dugi and Navajo Nation Council Delegate Jerry Bodie of Sanostee, N.M. Car seat clinics planned in July

Come and learn to how to correctly install children’s car seats. For those who need them, car seats will be available. Clinics are scheduled 9-11 a.m. at Keams Canyon Trailer Park on July 16, at FMCV community building parking area on July 23 and Sipaulovi community building parking area on July 30. Coalmine Canyon

Coalmine Canyon Chapter will hold an Executive Planning meeting at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 13. The Comprehensive Land Use meeting is at 10 a.m. July 27 and the regular chapter meeting is 1 p.m. July 27. All meetings are held at the Coalmine Canyon Chapter modular building in Coalmine Canyon (18 miles south of Tuba City on highway 264).

Piestewa benefit

A steak lunch and traditional entertainment will be offered to the public from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 at the Hogan Restaurant Courtyard at Main Street and Moenave Avenue in Tuba City. A $6 donation will be collected from everyone, with all proceeds to benefit the Lori Piestewa Fund. The Navajo Nation Hospitality Enterprise is sponsoring the event to assist Piestewa’s children and family with their ongoing needs. The benefit provides community members an opportunity to enjoy the afternoon with the Piestewa family while contributing to this worthwhile cause. Advance tickets are available. Class of '71 Reunion

Recruitment is underway at Tolani Lake Elementary School Academy for the 2003-04 school year. Soldiers Run deadline

Flagstaff Medical Center’s Soldiers Trail Run for Children’s Rehabilitative Services (formerly known as the LifeRun) is scheduled for Aug. 2, but the deadline for early registration discount is July 14. The event offers a 5K and 10K trail run or a 2K fitness walk along Soldiers Trail at the Fort Tuthill County Fairgrounds south of Flagstaff. Blues Sunday at casino

By popular demand, Blues Sunday is returning to the Dragonfly Lounge at Cliff Castle Casino. Danny Rhodes will be hosting some of Arizona’s best blues players on Sunday, July 13, from 7 p.m.-11 p.m. Chuck Hall and Hans Olsen will be Danny’s special guests. The show is free.
