Indian Nations/Legislative Day a succes<br>

Phoenix — More than 300 people from Arizona tribal communities converged on the State Capitol for the 2003 Indian Nations and Tribes Legislative Day on Jan. 21.

Leaders from 12 tribes as far away as Kaibab-Paiute, north of the Grand Canyon, and as close as the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC), outside of Scottsdale, came to meet with the Governor and legislative leaders. They also attended a special joint legislative session and had lunch under the blue sky on the Capitol lawn. This year was the first that the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs organized the event after being given statutory authority by the 45th Legislature last year.
