A beautiful day for Shirley & Dayish<br>

The 20th Navajo Nation Council took their oath of office from the Honorable Chief Justice Robert Yazzie. Travis Terry, a member of the Pima Tribe, performed a haunting flute solo in its honor.

“I picture Mr. Shirley as an eagle in flight hovering over his children,” Terry said as he lifted a slender eagle-bone flute to his lips.

After Yazzie swore in the Navajo Board of Election Supervisors, Shirley stood to deliver a message of hope and promise to the Navajo people.

“Today is a good day, the beginning of a new chapter of the Navajo Nation,” Shirley began. “Myself and Frank Dayish, Jr., thank you for entrusting us with the leadership of the Navajo Nation. We will do everything we can not to let you down.”
