Relay for Life readies with annual kickoff

The event aimed at beating cancer through raising money for research is once again hitting Ron Bellman Track.

The Relay for Life, which is a 24 hour walk illustrating the fact that cancer never sleeps, is set for June 6-7. The walk will begin at 6 p.m. on the 6th and continue until 6 a.m. the 7th.

The kickoff for the annual event will be held Thursday, Jan. 24 at BoJo’s Grill and Sports Club beginning at 6 p.m.

At the kickoff celebration, team leaders or individuals can pickup packets for the event.

These packets include registration information, event information and even fundraising ideas.

Co-chairman of the event Theresa Warren encouraged everyone who is thinking about getting involved in the Relay to come down and get an informational packet due to there being no commitment at this stage.

She is also hoping former team leaders will be at the kickoff to offer fundraising advice to those needing it, especially since the goal is to raise money for research.

This year’s Relay dedicatees are Angela Guzman and Kody Clay, and like in years past, all cancer survivors present will be awarded for beating the disease.

Warren also said an entertainment committee has been set up for the event aimed at making the event more fun for those participating. Brenda Hayes is heading up that committee.
