Hopi boys beat Desert View <br>

Blue Ridge — Four Bruins scored in double figures as the Hopi High School boys basketball team defeated Desert View-Tucson, 84-72, Jan. 2 in the opening round of the Blue Ridge Tournament.

Hopi took the early lead and never looked back as the Bruins led 21-14 after the first quarter. Hopi led 37-33 at halftime and 60-46 after three quarters.

Sophomore sensation Michael Schjang topped Hopi with 21 points, Mack Talashie poured in 18 and Ritchie Sahneyah and Ty Zahne scored a dozen each for the Bruins.

Mark Sanchez paced Desert View with 17 points, Jose Rascon chipped in with 16 and Michael Martin added 14 points in the losing cause.

Hopi connected on 22 of 28 shots from thecharity line.
