Hopi High NHS food drive targets elders<br>

Thomas Mentzer, NHS sponsor and head of the science department at Hopi High, said the response this year was incredible. He continues to be impressed with the NHS students who work on this food drive.

“I’m really proud of these NHS students for taking this initiative. They put in a lot of time to participate in order to help people so they have a happier holiday,” he said.

Mentzer said this is the most gratifying project that he has been involved with for two reasons.

First, the elders who receive the food boxes have a great look of surprise and happiness on their faces because the students would do something so caring.

Second, Mentzer feels it is a touching experience for the students, and he hopes this volunteer work will carry into their adult lives so they will make public service part of their lifelong work.
