Hopi Bruins split wrestling opener<br>

TUBA CITY— Hopi High School opened its wrestling season by winning two of four matches at a seven team meet Dec. 2 at Tuba City High School.

Red Mesa beat Hopi, 36-30. The Bruins came back to beat Many Farms, 48-18, and Ganado, 42-38, before falling to Monument Valley, 54-24.

Hopi High Coach Jeff Adams said the Bruins wrestled well for a team that had only two seniors. The coach was also pleased that every Hopi wrestler had a chance to compete.

Lahrs Crothers, at the 160 pound category, was the top Bruin as he won all four of his matches.

Joe Yoywaima, at 189 pounds, and Darren Chosa, at 215 pounds, both won three of four matches.

Seth Collateta, at 125 pounds, won two of three matches. Jeremy Adams, at 125 pounds, won two of four matches.

Coach Adams said the Hopi High wrestlers need to improve technically.

“We still have a lot to learn, and it will get better with more practice,” he said. “The good news is that all the mistakes that we made are correctable.”

Coach Adams said he was happy with the effort by each of the Hopi High School wrestlers.

“The kids wrestled hard,” he said.
