Hopi Students Head To Harvard

Polacca, Ariz. - Eleven students from Hopi High School will study at Harvard this summer as part of a unique pilot program.

Last year, nine Hopi High School students became the first in the nation to study at Harvard during the summer before they graduated from high school. Five more native high schools, including two in New Mexico, have linked up with Harvard following in the footsteps of Hopi High School.

Harvard’s Dr. David Potter, professor of neurobiology, was the one who pursued the program after hearing the idea from Wallace Youvella, vice president of the Hopi Junior/Senior High School Governing Board.
