Tuba City Girls Beat Hopi

Polacca, Ariz.- Tuba City jumped ahead early and went on to defeat Hopi, 69-41, in girl’s 3A North basketball action Thursday night.

The Lady Warriors improved to 14-2 overall and 4-1 in conferences. The Lady Bruins dropped to 11-6 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Coco Tsingine led Tuba City with 19, Sharlimar Navaho fired in 18, Adrienne Begay helped the cause with eight, Sissy Hatathlie, Gwen Riggs, Latawnya Talayumptewa, Tia Semallie and Jayme Lomakema netted four points each and Krisheena Tsingine and Deidre Dogsleep scored a deuce each.

Chassity Gould topped Hopi with 11 points, Trisha Tenakhongva netted a half dozen, Tara Secakuku tossed in five, Mallory Shattuck and Zondra Mahle scored four each, Thomasita Silas added three and Jvette Yoyokie, Hannah Honani and Marie Koopee each had a deuce.

Tsingine poured in eight points and Navaho added five as the Lady Warriors raced to a 19-8 edge after the first quarter. Tsingine fired in five more in the second as Tuba City led 32-14 at intermission.

Navaho poured in 11 points in the third as the Lady Warriors led 58-26. Gould scored a half dozen points in the final period as the Lady Bruins outscored Tuba City in the last period, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

Tuba City Coach Manny Begay said he was a little disappointed that the Lady Warriors had too many turnovers throughout the game and didn’t execute well late in the game.
