Bulldog Basketball Beats Window Rock – Clinching State Chances

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs clinched the regular season Enchantment Region championship with a 64-57 victory over the Window Rock Lady Scouts at Window Rock on Saturday. The victory left the Lady Bulldogs with a perfect 12-0 record in the region and a 20-4 record for the season. Window Rock fell to a still impressive 22-5 record for the season and a 9-3 mark in the region.

The Lady Bulldogs used a 22-13 scoring advantage in the third period to erase a slim Window Rock lead and secure the victory. The Lady Scouts had led 15-12 after the first period and 30-29 at the intermission.

Faith Carpenter led the Winslow attack with 14 points. Lexine Jensen was also in double figures with 12 points. Kelly Willie and Starla McCurtain scored nine points each for the victors.

Only five Lady Scouts scored as Jodelle Bitloy led all participants with 20 points. The talented Roberta Haskie scored 19 points for Window Rock and Renee West added nine points.

Winslow was to play the Greyhills Academy Lady Knights at Tuba City on Tuesday and will complete the regular season against the Hopi Lady Bruins at Polacca on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs have secured a berth in the semi-finals of the Enchantment Region Tournament and will not play until Friday, Feb. 15 at Tuba City (tournament hosted by Greyhills Academy). Winslow has also clinched a berth in the Arizona State 3A Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at NAU in Flagstaff and concludes on Saturday, Feb. 23 at America West Arena in Phoenix.

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Window Rock Scouts 80-58 in an Enchantment Region basketball game played in Window Rock on Saturday. The victory clinched at least a second place finish for the Bulldogs in regional play and assured them of a berth in the Arizona State 3A Championship Tournament. Winslow improved its league leading record to 11-1 in the region and 17-6 for the season.

The Bulldogs led after every period, but used a big third period advantage to put the game out of reach. The Winslow lead was 18-12 after the first period and 37-31 at the intermission. By the end of the third period, the advantage was a commanding 57-37.

Seth Davis led all scorers with 25 points for Winslow. Shane Garnett was also in double figures for the Bulldogs with 12 points.

John Huyser led Window Rock with 16 points. Asa-Ryan Begaye was also in double figures for the Scouts with 14 points.

The Bulldogs were to play the Greyhills Academy Knights at Tuba City on Tuesday and will complete the regular season at Polacca on Saturday against the Hopi Bruins.
