Adrienne Dickson Advances To Navajo County Spelling Bee

Adrienne Dickson, a seventh grader at Winslow Junior High took top place at the District-wide Spelling Bee by correctly spelling the word “equator.”

Dickson will be joined by nine other WUSD students at the Navajo County Spelling Bee in February and compete against other winners throughout the county.

Danny Kolomitz, a sixth grader at Thomas Jefferson Elementary, took second place, Kristen Gonzalez, a sixth grader at Washington Elementary, placed third, and Shauneesha Jones, a fourth grader from Bonnie Brennan Elementary, placed fourth. Also advancing to the county competition are fifth place winner, Gabby Breedlove, a sixth grader from Washington Elementary; sixth place winner, John Sears, an eighth grader at WJHS; seventh place winner, Amanda Henrie, a fifth grader at Washington; eighth place winner, Kyli Parsons, a fourth grader at Washington; ninth place winner, Haley Brewton, an eighth grader at WJHS; and tenth place winner, Briana Conatser, an eighth grader at WJHS.

Others competing in the event include:

Bonnie Brennan fourth grader, Janie Soehner; fifth graders, Corrina Horne and Keifer Gilbert; sixth graders, Meghan Pugh, Maria Thompson, Josh Jue, Jose Tafoya, Cori Brewton and Tenika Horne.

Thomas Jefferson fourth graders, Larea Begay and Bryan Powell; fifth graders, Gabby Hayes and John Montoya; sixth graders, Sasha Gheiler, Taylor Heath, Kristyne Burress and Jade Guerrero.

Washington Elementary fourth grader, Floy Carr; fifth grader, Jordan Lane; sixth graders, Hattie Peterson, Stratton Salyers, Keari Doney, and Chris Branch.

WJHS seventh graders, Toni Goldtooth, Michael Parris, Randall Curtis, Ashley Nelson, Estephan Ybarra, Rochelle Roanhorse and John Harms.
