The Arizona Cardinals (0-1) opened their season with a 38-17 loss to the Denver Broncos (2-0) in Tempe on Sunday. The Cardinals started strong and enjoyed a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter. The defense played surprisingly well, but not well enough to overcome the turnover plague that allowed the Broncos to regroup and take a 17-10 half-time lead. This really doesn’t look like the “same old Cardinals”, but this team is going to have to find a way to take care of the football if it is ever going to be a real winner. Next up are the Atlanta Falcons in Tempe on Sunday. Atlanta defeated the Carolina Panthers in their last outing.
The Arizona Wildcats (3-0) skipped past the UNLV Running Rebs (0-3) 38-21 on Saturday in Tucson. The Wildcats will host the Washington State Cougars (3-0 and 1-0 in the PAC-10) on Saturday. The Cougars ran all over the Idaho Bengals in a non-conference game on Saturday.
The Arizona State Sun Devils (1-1, 0-1) fell 51-28 to the Stanford Cardinal (2-0, 1-0) on Saturday at Palo Alto. Quarterback Jeff Krohn was one of the few bright spots for the Devils. The ASU defense found themselves unable to stop any of the Cardinal offensive arsenal. The Sun Devils will host the San Jose State Spartans (1-2) on Saturday in a non-conference game. The Spartans got their first win of the season with a 14-7 victory over the Colorado State Rams.
The Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks (3-0, 1-0) thrashed the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 41-12 on Saturday. The Lumberjacks will play Portland State at Portland on Saturday. Portland State lost a heart breaker 30-29 to the Grambling Tigers on Saturday.
