The Arizona Cardinals claimed first place in the NFL East on Sunday without playing a down and will remain there for at least another week. All of the other teams in the region lost their opening games. The Cardinals were to take on the Washington Redskins in the nation’s capitol on Sunday. Games slated for Sunday were postponed due to the terrorist attacks upon the United States. It would appear that Arizona would open its season at home on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
The Arizona Wildcats moved to 2-0 for the season with a 36-29 win over the Idaho Bengals on Sept. 8. The Wildcats were off this week and will host UNLV on Saturday.
The Arizona State Sun Devils (1-0 were to have met the UCLA Bruins (2-0) on Saturday, but that game was postponed as well. The Devils will meet the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday at Palo Alto.
The Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks slipped by Stephen F. Austin 10-3 in Flagstaff on Sept. 7. The game between NAU and Oklahoma State slated for Saturday was also postponed. The Lumberjacks will be at Southern Utah on Saturday.
