AIMS Testing Results Show Growth<br>

Winslow Unified School District has seen a continuous growth in their Arizona Instrument to Measure the Standards (AIMS) test scores compared to the last three years.

The high school students who took the test at the beginning of the school year produced the highest scores in the last three years. In reading, 58 percent of WUSD tenth graders taking the test have meet or exceeded averages compared to 44 percent three years ago. High school math scores have also seen an increase from one percent passing the section in 1999 to 22 percent passing in 2001 and writing has also seen an increase to 26 percent passing compared to 13 percent three years ago.

Seventy-four percent of WUSD’s third graders passed the reading section of the test, compared to last year’s 62 percent. WUSD is above the state average for third graders who passed the reading section, which is 72 percent.

The third graders who passed the math section increase to 47 percent from last year’s 27 percent, but are still under the state average by six points, which is 53 percent.

Fifth graders who passed the reading section dropped from 58 percent to 48 percent and fell under the state average of 55 percent passing.

Math was a different story for the fifth grade with 42 percent passing compared to last year’s 22 percent. The math scores also passed the state average of 45 percent.

The scores for the eighth graders will be available in next week’s Winslow Mail.
