Polacca, Ariz. Hopi High School won the girls 3A North Cross Country Invitational at Hopi High School by packing its top five runners into the top 15. In cross-country, the lowest score wins and each schools score is based on the finish of its top five runners.

Kelsy Hardt led Hopi High to the championship by grabbing sixth place. “It felt good to win and nice to be part of a team which won something that means so much to the community and school,” she said. “This gives me confidence for the state meet.”

Hardt transferred to Hopi High from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, where she placed 13th in the 4A state meet last year. She was also happy with the 3A North race this year because she felt she proved she improved as a runner.

Hardt said Hopi High is the best team in the 3A North because the runners are real close and let nothing come between them. “We’re all good friends and we work hard together,” she said.
