Diamondback Review<br>

The Detroit Tigers broke loose for four runs off Arizona loser Troy Brohawn after being tamed on one hit by Miguel Batista for the first six innings. The result was a 5-2 loss to the Tigers in the series opener.

Robert Ellis won yet another big game on June 16 with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers. The rookie has become a key ingredient on the D-Backs staff.

Tony Womack’s grand slam led to an 8-3 win over the Tigers in the series finale. Curt Schillings improved to 11-2 with victory, which also moved Arizona 15 games over .500 for the first time this season.

Randy Johnson won his ninth game of the season 9-2 in the opener of a two-game set at Los Angeles on June 19. Luis Gonzales blasted a pair of homers. Craig Counsell continued to spark the “small ball” offense.

The Dodgers salvaged a 4-3 win on June 20 to split the series. It was a strange game that ended with a bases loaded hit batsman after a two-base wild pitch. Both teams missed multiple opportunities. David Dellucci’s continuing failing to execute a sacrifice bunt is becoming increasing disturbing as is Steve Finley’s failure to produce runs with runners at third and less than two outs.

A four game set at Colorado began on Thursday. The Diamondbacks then began a three game set with the Houston Astros at Bank One Ballpark on Monday. There will be an off day on Thursday before the Rockies arrive for a three game set.

The D-Backs have a three game series in Houston before three at Bank One Ballpark with Oakland on July 608. Then comes the All Star Break.
