Bulldog Wrestlers seventh at State

The Winslow Bulldog wrestling team finished seventh in the Arizona State 3A Championship Meet held in Phoenix on Feb. 9 and 10. Rio Rico won the meet with Payson placing second and Show Low third. Holbrook was fourth followed by Coolidge, San Manuel and Winslow.

Senior Mike Martinez (130) and junior Dustin Taylor (140) paced the Bulldogs with third place finishes. Senior David Manthei (160) finished fourth. Freshman Jeff Murray (103) finished fifth and junior Steve Polocca finished seventh.

Coach Tom Breeze said that the team had experienced some problems with people quitting or missing practice, but that he expects to place higher next year. He said that the team would only lose four seniors and was set to begin free style wrestling and hold a wrestling camp in the very near future.
