Blackfire Tour

Blackfire will tour the Navajo Nation this month: Feb. 16 at Monument Valley High School in Kayenta at 8 p.m.; and Feb. 17 at Chilchinbeto School. Uranium Update

Benefit Social and Dance

Indian Artists of America Show

The Indian Artists of America Show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February, 17-18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall. Live performances by Clandestine. Admission is $8; kids under 12 free.

Disabilities Conference

A two-day conference on Self-Determination for All Americans with Disabilities will be held February 27-28 at the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock. Please register by February 19. United Way Celebration

The Navajo Way, Inc., will host the Twelfth Annual Campaign Victory Celebration on February 23 at the Shiprock Boys and Girls Club Gym in Shiprock, honoring contributors, volunteers and agencies affiliated with the United Way for the Navajo Nation. Benefit Contest

Pow Wow

On February 23-24 the Benefit Contest Pow Wow will be held at Flagstaff High School. Friday, February 23 at 5 p.m.: Gourd dancing, 7 p.m.: Grand Entry; 12 a.m.: closing. On Saturday, February 24 activities will start at 11 a.m. and continue throughout the day. Admission is $4 for adults or a 2-day pass of $7, students are $3 or 2-day of $5, 6 and under is free and seniors are $1. YMCA Strong Kids Campaign

The Flagstaff Family YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign is underway. The campaign benefits programs aimed at Flagstaff children and families including youth sports, day camp, water safety, YMCA Friendship Fire and programs aimed specifically at teens. Campaign donations also aid YMCA’s Financial Assistance policy. The YMCA needs help in keeping the programs running. Campaign contributions can be made through the YMCA at (520) 556-9622.

Woolly Mammoth

Hear about the challenges of excavating a complete Woolly Mammoth from the Siberian tundra when Geology Professor Larry Agenbroad repeats his popular lecture for the 2000 Sedona Lecture Series at the Museum of Northern Arizona. Dr. Agenbroad will describe his role in the international expedition that retrieved the mammoth and his desire to clone the extinct species on Tuesday, February 22 at 7 PM in the Museum’s Harvey W. Eagle Float

Canyonlands Field Institute’s annual Eagle Float will be held March 3. The trip, which is co-sponsored by Sheri Griffith River Expeditions (SGRE), is open to adults and children. The cost per adult for this trip is $80 ($72 for CFI members); the cost is $60 ($54 for CFI members) for children under 18. The fee includes raft outfitting, instruction, lunch, snacks, and return transportation to Loma.

Santa Fe Gift Market

Join the Santa Fe Gift Market for the 12th annual wholesale designation for the finest New Mexico products. The market will feature Southwest & Native American gift items, gourmet foods and regional crafts, jewelry, apparel, stationery, home furnishings and more.
