Editorially Speaking....VOTE!

Primary elections are next Tuesday, September 12. For some candidates, the primary IS the election and they need your support.

Remember that if you are independent or third party or no party, but registered, you can vote in this election.

The Arizona Open Primary is a new law and instructions for the poll workers are useful for the voters too. These instructions were found posted at the Navajo County Courthouse.

" Any registered voter, regardless of party affiliation, is eligible to vote in the State Primary on September 12, 2000 due to Arizona's Open Primary Law which was passed by voters in the 1998 General Election. Where a poll worker finds a voter's name in the Signature Roster and sees that they are registered as independent, non-partisan, not party or as a member of a political party that is not entitled to continued representation on the ballot, the voter shall designate the ballot of ONLY ONE of the political parties that is entitled to continued representation on the ballot. The poll worker will write, in red, the three letter abbreviation for the party next to the voter's name in the Signature Roster, and add the new number to the Party Tally Sheet to be returned with the ballot report election night."

This new law gives some voters a whole new opportunity. Take advantage of it.
