Ganado boys, Tuba City girls Cross-Country champions;<br>Monument Valley wins Enchantment Region Tournament

The Ganado boys and Tuba City girls claimed team championships in the Enchantment Region Cross-Country Championship Meet held in Winslow on Saturday. The Window Rock, Tuba City and Winslow boys and the Ganado, Window Rock and Monument Valley girls also qualified teams for the Arizona State 3A Conference Meet to be held at Freestone Park in Gilbert on Saturday.

Art Tsosie and Dwight Dixon of Monument Valley, Tavis Maloney of Greyhills and Heather Johnson and Lexine Jensen of Winslow all qualified for the state meet as individuals although their teams did not qualify.

Gabriel Hoskie of Window Rock won the boys' meet and Ciji Honahnie of Tuba City won the girls' meet.

The top 15 boys in order of finish were Gabriel Hoskie of Window Rock, Evan Horace of Tuba City, Garrett Hoskie of Window Rock, Keith Long of Ganado, Lionel Dallas of Tuba City, Braden James of Winslow, Michael Shorty of Ganado, Art Tsosie of Monument Valley, Lawrence Watson of Winslow, Tavis Maloney of Greyhills, Dwight Dixon of Monument Valley, Levi Bigwater of Ganado, Daniel Yazzie of Tuba City, Simon Jones of Ganado and Brian Yazzie of Tuba City.

The top 15 girls in order of finish were Ciji Honahnie of Tuba City, Rebecca Wisemen of Monument Valley, Brandi Atene of Tuba City, Khrysten Seweingyawma of Tuba City, Marietta Riggs of Tuba City, Sharily Slivers of Ganado, Virginia Begay of Window Rock, Jayme Lomakema of Tuba City, Heather Johnson of Winslow, Christina Begay of Tuba City, Roxanne Cook of Ganado, Shelia Black of Monument Valley, Lexine Jensen on Winslow, Melissa Jones of Ganado and Katrina Tabaho of Window Rock.

Team scores in the boys' meet were Ganado 57, Window Rock 60, Tuba City 68, Winslow 74, Monument Valley 98 and Greyhills 114.

Team scores in the girls' meet were Tuba City 21, Ganado 70, Window Rock 82, Monument Valley 90 and Winslow 98.

Other Winslow runners places were Marcus Williams 18, Billy Wilcox 19, Stephen Hancock 22, Mark Rostedt 31 and Paul Ricks 32.

Winslow girls placing at the regional meet were Camelle Begay 22, Michelle Candelaria 26, Cherise Lopez 28, Joanna Black 32 and Debra Hancock 34.

The Monument Valley Lady Mustangs claimed the Enchantment Region Volleyball Championship on Saturday with victories over Winslow and Ganado in the regional tournament at Winslow. Ganado was second, having reached the finals with a victory over Tuba City earlier in the day.

Winslow defeated Tuba City in the third place match and will be the region's third seeded team. Tuba City will be the region's fourth and final seed. The Lady Warriors defeated Greyhills on Thursday to earn a spot in the semi-finals. Winslow defeated Window Rock on Thursday to earn its semi-final berth.

Monument Valley went undefeated at 12-0 in regular season regional play. Ganado was 9-3, Tuba City 8-4, Winslow 6-6, Window Rock 5-7, Greyhills 2-10 and Pinon 0-12. Greyhills eliminated Pinon on Thursday before being eliminated themselves by Tuba City.

In tournament play, Winslow defeated Window Rock in a three game match (17-15, 8-15, 15-7), lost to Monument Valley in two games (15-3, 15-3) and defeated Tuba City in a three game match (5-15, 15-3, 15-13).

The state tournament will be played at Greenway High School in Phoenix on Friday and Saturday, November 3-4.
