Bulldog Wrestlers defeat Window Rock

The Winslow Bulldog wrestling team defeated Window Rock 63-16 in a dual meet held at Winslow on Dec. 5.

Winslow's Jeff Murray won the 103-pound match 12-10 by pinning Deletion Nelson.

Dustin Cole of Winslow won the 112-pound match by forfeit.

Arthur Brito of Winslow defeated Jarod Yazzie 9-7 in the 119-pound match.

Scott Dobbins of Winslow pinned Jerome James in the 125-pound match.

Michael Martinez of Winslow won by forfeit in the 130-pound match.

Jesse Hancock of Winslow pinned Marcus Yazzie in the 135-pound match.

Dustin Taylor of Winslow pinned Duane Thomas in the 140-pound match.

Steven Martinez of Winslow pinned Carlyle Cook in an exhibition in the 145-pound division.

Chase Lawn of Window Rock pinned Phillip Smith of Winslow in the 152-pound match.

Kendal Ybarra of Winslow pinned Marshall June in the 160-pound match.

Steven Polacca of Winslow pinned Lynl Damon in the 171-pound match.

Sean Yazzie of Window Rock defeated Troy Johnson of Winslow 21-9 in the 189-pound match.

Brian Mitchell of Winslow won by forfeit in the 215-pound match.

Mickel Waneka of Window Rock pinned Brandon Mitchell of Winslow in the heavyweight match.

The Winslow junior varsity defeated Window Rock 24-0.

Bulldog Wrestlers win Holbrook Invitational

The Winslow Bulldog wrestlers won the Holbrook Invitational Wrestling Meet held on Dec. 1 and 2. Winslow finished first with 370 points, nipping the Coconino Panthers who finished second with 363 points. The leaders were followed by the host Holbrook Roadrunners with 353 points and Snowflake Lobos with 339 points.

Outstanding wrestler honors went to Angel Candelaria of Holbrook, Mark Cruz of Hayden and Donald Ignacio of Coconino.

Jeff Murray at 103 pounds, Steve Martinez at 145 pounds and David Manthei at 160 pounds all turned in second place finishes for Coach Tom Breeze's squad.

Scott Dobbins at 130 pounds, Mike Martinez at 130 pounds and Dustin Taylor at 140 pounds all finished third in their divisions.

Kendal Ybarra finished fourth in the 152-pound division.

Arthur Brito at 119 pounds and Steve Polacca at 171 pounds finished fifth in their divisions.

Jesse Hancock at 135 pounds and Brandon Mitchell in the heavyweight division each finished sixth.

Other team scores included Gallup 250, Mesa Skyline 246, Tolleson 230, Antelope 227, Hopi 184, Chinle 181, Pinon 173, Hayden 172, Ganado 151 and Greyhills 122.

The team competed in the Las Vegas El Dorado Gold Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday, winning fourth place among 24 teams. Results will appear in the Dec. 20 edition of The Winslow Mail.
