Bulldogs go to championship round in Shootout

The Winslow Bulldogs held the Chino Valley Cougars scoreless in the fourth quarter and took a 59-46 victory in their first test of the Winslow Shootout on Thursday. The win left the Bulldogs with a 3-1 record and dropped the Cougars to 6-3. Chino Valley had played an earlier game in the tournament and defeated the Hopi Bruins 72-67.

Winslow led 20-17 after the first period, only to see the Cougars forge a 31-31 tie at intermission and take a 46-45 lead into the final frame. The stingy Bulldog defense kept the Cougars off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter and rode their 14-0 performance to the win.

Bryan Curtis paced the Bulldogs with 16 points. Shane Garnett was also in double figures with 10 points. Braden James scored nine and Seth Davis had eight for the victors.

Blake Shipper led the Cougars with 16 points. Kyle Kensing was also in double figures with 10 points. Chino Valley played without the services of 6' 5" senior postman Justin Cupp who had been ejected from the Hopi game.

In other first round action on Thursday Payson defeated Camp Verde 77-52, Globe nipped Greyhills 62-61, Snowflake bombed River Valley 86-48, Show Low defeated Camelback 63-52, Coconino defeated Ganado 38 and Tuba City blitzed Payson 80-49.

Warriors 47 Winslow 43 for Shootout Crown

The Tuba City Warriors used a strong third quarter to pull out a 47-43 victory over the Winslow Bulldogs in the Championship Game of the Winslow Shootout Invitational Tournament on Saturday. The victory left the Warriors undefeated at 5-0 and dropped Winslow to 4-2 for the young season.

Winslow led 11-8 after the first period of play and 24-22 at the intermission. Tuba City outscored the Bulldogs 12-5 in the third period though to take a 34-29 lead into the final quarter.

Josh Allan led all scorers with 16 points for the Warriors. Seth Davis and Bryan Curtis were both in double figures for the Bulldogs with 11 points each.

Show Low defeated Snowflake 86-73 in the contest for the third place trophy. Coconino bested Globe 66-54 to claim the consolation bracket trophy. In other games on Saturday Globe defeated Payson 62-56, Coconino bested Greyhills 51-34, Ganado defeated River Valley 64-56, Camelback got by Chino Valley 72-59 and Camp Verde defeated Hopi 55-43.
