Enchantment Region football preview

The Ganado Hornets will begin defense of their Enchantment Region (3A North) crown with Coach Russ Semore at the helm for his third season in Ganado. Ganado won the regional title with a perfect 6-0 record and was 9-2 for the season, including the region’s only state play-off win. The Hornets will be at 4A Chinle on Friday for the season opener.

Winslow finished second in the region with a 5-1 regional record and a 7-3 mark for the season. The Bulldogs will welcome a new coach in Matthew Gracey and are expected to feature strong line play and a host of talented runningbacks. The Bulldogs will open the season on the road against their old rival Holbrook of the 3A East Region.

Monument Valley finished third in the region with a 4-2 regional record and was 5-4 for the season. The Mustangs will be at 4A Page on Friday. A good weight program and a winning tradition make the Mustangs a good bet for post season play.

Tuba City was in fourth place in the region with a record of 3-3 in the region and 4-5 for the season. The Warriors will entertain 2A power Williams on Friday. Josh Allan is back along with a host of veteran players and the Warriors enjoy a favorable home schedule. Tuba City should be a threat for the league title.

Window Rock missed the play-offs with a 2-4 record in the region and a 2-7 mark for the season. The Scouts will entertain Aztec, New Mex., in the season opener on Friday.

Pinon sat out post season play and finished the season 1-7-1 for the season and 1-5 in the region. The Eagles will entertain 2A Many Farms in the season opener.

Greyhills Academy also missed the play-offs with a 1-8 record and will open the season against 2A Red Mesa at Tuba City on Friday.
